History
The UCL sawmill is based in Glenside in the picturesque KZN midlands in South Africa.
The sawmill, formerly known as Küsel’s Sawmill, has been in operation since 1935. The sawmill has a long tradition of supplying quality sawn board cut from twenty eight year old SA pine trees. The pine trees are grown on our own farms as well as on surrounding timber farms the owners of which are mostly shareholders in UCL. It is as a result of this very strong link between the company and its growers that the raw material supplied to the mill is of such a high quality.
The sawmill has grown over the years into a business which has become an important part of the local economy by creating jobs, ensuring sustainable and reliable movement of timber from growers and lumber to customers as well as supporting other local businesses by assisting their operations with the supply of our by-products. Our current cutting target is 340 m3 a day.
UCL Sawmill is the sawmilling division of UCL Company (Pty) Ltd which is a diversified agricultural company, also based in the Natal Midlands, formed in 1924. The Company is a large scale enterprise specialising in the manufacture of pine lumber, wattle tannin extracts and sugar.
