Wattle Products

 

UCL produces a comprehensive line of products, ranging from speciality leather tanning powders to a range of resin products used in the manufacture of adhesives for particle board, plywood and cardboard applications. Our customer base enjoys the benefits of naturally derived products as well as the advantages of consistent quality assurance. The vast majority of wattle extract products are exported to countries in Europe,
Africa, the Americas and Asia.

 

Product Background

Our Mimosa powdered and solid products are manufactured from freshly-stripped wattle bark and are known for their light colour and high tannin content. Each batch is carefully analysed according to official SLTC test methods and trend analysis of these results ensure that strict quality control is maintained, in line with our ISO 9001 certification. Powdered extract products are available in 20 kg, colour-coded BOPP bags and UCL Company (Pty) Ltd is the industry leader in moving to this pack size, as well as the ergonomically-friendly 25 kg hessian pack size for their solid extract products. Powdered products are also available in bulk quantities (500kg).


NATURAL PRODUCTS

MIMOSA ME BRAND POWDER

A natural, brown, dedusted extract for use in all types of leather, be it full-vegetable tannage or chrome-retanning applications in drums, pits or tanning machines.

MIMOSA ELEPHANT BRAND SOLID EXTRACT

An untreated, brown solid extract suitable for use in heavy vegetable tanned leather applications, e.g. sole, strap or harness, in crushed or dissolved form in drums or by placing the permeable hessian bag of extract, as it is, into pits.

 
BLEACHED PRODUCTS

MIMOSA GS POWDER ELEPHANT BRAND

An exceptionally light-coloured, dedusted powder manufactured using carefully selected fresh wattle bark. Used for full vegetable tanning or chrome retanning applications where a particularly pale-coloured leather is required.

 MIMOSA MS POWDER

This lightly bleached, dedusted powder is ideal for closed pit-tanning operations due to its low salt content, but also suitable for drum tanning applications where a lighter-coloured product is required than that using Mimosa ME Powder.

 
SULPHONATED PRODUCTS

MIMOSA FS POWDER

A very light-coloured, dedusted powder with reduced astringency, superior solubility and enhanced light-fastness. Used for vegetable leather tanning where rapid penetration is required or in combination tannages and chrome retanning applications.

MISCELLANEOUS PRODUCTS

We are also capable of manufacturing a range of products to meet our customers’ requirements, including darker extract, extract with enhanced filling properties, reduced astringency extracts and bespoke Mimosa extracts.
